Key takeaways
  • Semrush and Ahrefs are the most complete, but cost $129–140+ a month.
  • On no budget, combine Google Search Console, Ahrefs Webmaster Tools and a free CrazyDodo account.
  • For Mauritius or AI-search visibility, CrazyDodo shows data where global tools show blanks.

Ubersuggest is one of the easiest SEO tools to start with: clean screens, keyword ideas, a site audit and rank tracking at a lower price than the big suites. But people go looking for an alternative for three common reasons: the free plan stops after a few searches a day, they need more data than the cheapest plan gives, or the data for their country is thin.

Below is an honest comparison of the main options in October 2026, including the free ones, so you can pick the right tool for your budget. Prices change often, so each one links to the official pricing page.

Ubersuggest: what you get

Ubersuggest, from Neil Patel, covers keyword research, domain traffic estimates, backlinks, a site audit and rank tracking. Its official pricing page lists plans from US$29 to US$99 a month, a 7-day free trial on monthly plans, and a lifetime option. The entry plan includes 150 reports a day, 1 project, 125 tracked keywords (updated weekly) and a 1,000-page site audit.

Where it shines: it is simple, cheap compared with the big suites, and the lifetime deal is unusual in this market.
Where people hit limits: the free account allows only a few searches a day, rank tracking on the entry plan is weekly, and like most tools its database is strongest for big markets such as the US and UK.

The alternatives, one by one

1. Semrush: the all-in-one suite

Semrush goes far beyond SEO: keyword research, competitor traffic, backlinks, site audit, rank tracking, content and advertising research. The free account gives 10 reports a day, 1 project, a 100-page audit and 10 tracked keywords, which is enough to try it seriously. Paid plans start at around $140 a month, so it suits agencies and marketing teams more than a single small business.

2. Ahrefs: the backlink specialist

Ahrefs is best known for its backlink index. The official pricing starts at $29 a month for Starter, with the full toolset including 750 tracked keywords from Lite at $129. The real bargain is Ahrefs Webmaster Tools: free for websites you verify, with a site audit of 5,000 crawl credits a month and your own backlinks. It does not let you research competitors' keywords for free.

3. SE Ranking: strong rank tracking for less

SE Ranking starts at $129 a month ($103.20 billed yearly) with 2,000 tracked keywords, a large site audit allowance and backlink data. There is a 14-day free trial without a card. It is a good fit if you track many keywords or many client websites.

4. Mangools: the friendliest keyword tool

Mangools (KWFinder, SERPChecker, SERPWatcher, LinkMiner) is pleasant to use and cheaper, at around $30 a month billed yearly. The free plan gives 5 lookups every 24 hours. It has no site audit, so you would pair it with a free audit tool.

5. Moz Pro: the domain authority classic

Moz invented the Domain Authority score many people still quote. Moz Pro starts at around $49 a month with a 30-day free trial, and the free account includes 10 Link Explorer queries a month. Good if your clients or partners talk in DA.

6. Serpstat: budget all-in-one

Serpstat covers keywords, rank tracking, audits and backlinks from around $50 a month, with a short trial. It is a reasonable middle ground between Ubersuggest and the big suites.

7. Seobility: the best free technical audit

Seobility has a genuinely useful free plan: 1 project, 100 pages per crawl and 10 tracked keywords. Premium is €59.90 a month. It is strongest on technical and on-page checks.

8. Google Search Console: free and essential

Search Console is not a competitor research tool, but it is the only source of your real Google clicks, impressions and indexing problems. Every website owner should set it up, whatever paid tool they choose.

CrazyDodo: our tool, and its honest limits

We built CrazyDodo after seeing the same problems with Mauritian clients: tools that show "no data" for Mauritius, keyword volumes that ignore small markets, and nothing about being recommended by AI assistants. Here is what it does differently:

  • Mauritius first. Rankings are checked on Google Mauritius, and keyword volumes for Mauritius come from Google Ads data, so you get numbers where other tools show blanks.
  • Competitors in the same table. Every tracked keyword shows your position and each competitor's position side by side.
  • Several markets. Pro projects can track Mauritius, International and another country at the same time.
  • AI search readiness. The free analyzer gives a GEO and AEO score: how easily ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI answers can understand and cite your page.

Honest limits: CrazyDodo is younger than the tools above. It does not yet have a content writer or a keyword gap report, and big global tools have deeper historical data for large markets. If you are an agency working mainly on US or UK websites, Semrush or Ahrefs will give you more. If your customers are in Mauritius, or you care about AI answers, try CrazyDodo first: the analysis is free and needs no account.
